ABOUT BIGFOOT HEATING & COOLING

Our Story

Bigfoot Heating & Cooling was founded out of a growing concern with the direction the HVAC industry was heading, especially here in Spokane.

In recent years, many large HVAC companies have been bought by private equity firms and transformed into sales-driven operations. Technicians became salespeople. Repairs turned into replacement pitches. And homeowners were left wondering who they could actually trust.

We knew there had to be a better way.

Bigfoot Heating & Cooling was built to bring HVAC back to what it should be: skilled technicians diagnosing real problems, honest recommendations based on facts, and repairs done right the first time, not pushed aside for unnecessary replacements.

We believe homeowners deserve transparency, respect, and long-term solutions, not pressure tactics. That’s why we focus on craftsmanship, integrity, and standing behind our work with programs like the Comfort Club and the Legendary Bigfoot Warranty™.

We’re proud to be locally owned, technician-driven, and committed to doing what’s right, even when it’s harder. For us, HVAC isn’t about quotas or commissions. It’s about keeping Spokane homes comfortable, safe, and cared for.

👣 Cole Tarwater

Co-Owner & Installation Specialist

Cole is a co-owner of Bigfoot Heating & Cooling and brings a technician-first mindset to everything the company does.

Cole entered the HVAC industry in 2021 after COVID devastated the restaurant industry and forced him to start over professionally. At the time, he was working for Ecolab, servicing commercial dishwashers in restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and long-term care facilities. When that work disappeared almost overnight, Cole made the decision to return to HVAC, a trade he had previously worked in back in 2015–2016 before moving to Spokane.

Starting fresh, Cole committed fully to mastering the trade. He began in residential new construction (RNC), where he learned every part of the installation process from the ground up. Over time, he transitioned into retrofit installations, was promoted to RNC Foreman, and later advanced to Installation Manager, where he led and managed teams of 15–20 installers across multiple projects.

After leaving that role, Cole joined a cooperative to run their HVAC division. Although the company ultimately folded in 2025 due to lack of funding, the experience reinforced what Cole already believed: homeowners need HVAC companies led by technicians, not sales quotas or private equity playbooks.

That belief is what led Cole and his business partner, Colin, to start Bigfoot Heating & Cooling.

Cole’s passion is customer service and education. He believes homeowners deserve to understand one of the most expensive systems in their home without pressure, confusion, or fear-based sales tactics. Throughout his career, he has consistently pushed back against private-equity-driven HVAC models that prioritize replacements over repairs and commissions over craftsmanship.

Outside of work, Cole is married to the love of his life of over 20 years. Together, they share their home with three dogs and recently moved to their dream property in Cheney.

At Bigfoot Heating & Cooling, Cole’s goal is simple: deliver honest work, clear explanations, and long-term solutions, the way HVAC should be done.

👣 Andrew

HVAC Technician

Andrew was Bigfoot Heating & Cooling’s first employee and has been part of the team since day one. His work ethic, integrity, and commitment to doing what’s right have helped shape the company from the very beginning.

Andrew graduated from the HVAC Association School in 2022, the same program as co-owner Colin. He began his HVAC career at Sturm, where he worked on residential new construction (RNC) projects and built a strong foundation in installation work. During that time, Andrew learned HVAC systems from the ground up and gained valuable hands-on experience in the field.

After his time at Sturm, Andrew moved to Barton Boys, where he transitioned into service work as the company’s service department grew. There, he developed his diagnostic skills and worked directly with homeowners, helping identify problems and deliver effective solutions.

Andrew joined Bigfoot Heating & Cooling shortly after leaving Barton Boys, motivated by the same concerns that led others to step away, pressure to sell systems that weren’t necessary and a shift away from technician-driven service. At Bigfoot, Andrew appreciates being able to focus on honest diagnostics, quality work, and keeping homeowners comfortable without high-pressure sales tactics.

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time outdoors, hanging out with friends, gaming, and riding motorcycles.

Andrew takes pride in providing HVAC service that puts people first, and Bigfoot is proud to have him as a foundational member of the team.

👣 Colin fearn

Co-Owner & Service Technician

Colin is a co-owner of Bigfoot Heating & Cooling and brings a service-focused, customer-first approach to the company’s day-to-day operations.

Colin graduated from the HVAC Association School in 2022 and began his career immediately at Barton Boys, where he quickly proved himself as a skilled and dependable service technician. Trained specifically in service work, Colin takes pride in diagnosing problems accurately, explaining solutions clearly, and helping homeowners feel confident in the decisions they make about their comfort systems.

In addition to his technical background, Colin holds a business degree from Washington State University. That combination of hands-on HVAC training and business education gives him a unique perspective, one that balances quality workmanship with ethical business practices and long-term customer relationships.

Colin was a Lead Technician at Barton Boys until the company was sold to the SEER Group. Following the ownership change and resulting culture shift, Colin made the decision to leave. He wanted to be part of a company that put technicians and customers first, not sales metrics or corporate pressure.

That desire is what ultimately led Colin and Cole to start Bigfoot Heating & Cooling.

Colin genuinely enjoys providing services that make customers’ lives safer, more comfortable, and more efficient. He values the family atmosphere at Bigfoot and believes great HVAC service comes from teamwork, respect, and putting people before profits.

Outside of work, Colin is a huge Golden State Warriors and Seattle Seahawks fan. He enjoys motorcycles, spending time at the range, and is an avid collector. At home, he shares life with two dogs and three cats.

As a service technician by trade and a business owner by choice, Colin is proud to help lead a company that brings honesty, professionalism, and real care back to HVAC in Spokane.

👣 Kyle

Senior Service Technician

Kyle joined Bigfoot Heating & Cooling as an experienced service technician with a strong background in both residential and commercial HVAC service. He brings leadership, depth of knowledge, and a steady, solutions-focused approach to every call.

Kyle graduated from Spokane Community College’s two-year HVAC program in 2022 and went on to work at Sturm, where he served as a Lead Service Technician. In that role, he handled a wide range of commercial and residential service work, building a reputation for strong diagnostics, dependable repairs, and technical confidence in the field.

Kyle was brought onto the Bigfoot team to help support the company’s growth and allow co-owner Colin to begin stepping out of day-to-day field work. His experience and leadership help ensure customers continue to receive high-quality service as the company scales.

What Kyle values most about Bigfoot is the team culture. He appreciates working for a company where technicians are respected, collaboration is encouraged, and people are treated as professionals, not revenue generators. That alignment makes it easier to focus on what matters most: taking care of customers and doing the job right.

Outside of work, Kyle enjoys stand-up comedy, card games, and spending time with his family. He’s a proud father to a 15-year-old son.

Kyle takes pride in being part of a real team that values craftsmanship, integrity, and long-term relationships, and Bigfoot is proud to have him on board.
